Foundations of Medical Assisting

Introduction to Medical Assisting

  • Understand the role, responsibilities, and scope of practice of a Medical Assistant

  • Develop professional communication skills for effective patient interaction

  • Learn ethical standards, professionalism, and workplace expectations

Anatomy & Physiology

  • Study the structure and function of major human body systems

  • Apply anatomy and physiology concepts to clinical assessments and patient care


Clinical Procedures & Patient Care

Vital Signs & Patient Preparation

  • Accurately measure and record vital signs

  • Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures

  • Assist with patient flow while maintaining privacy and professionalism

Medication Administration

  • Learn safe medication handling and administration principles

  • Understand dosage calculations and medication safety protocols

  • Administer medications under appropriate supervision in clinical settings

Electrocardiogram (EKG)

  • Perform EKG procedures to assess cardiac activity

  • Understand EKG lead placement, rhythm basics, and patient preparation

Phlebotomy

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection

  • Learn specimen labeling, handling, and processing for laboratory testing


Administrative Skills for Healthcare Settings

Front Office Administration

  • Schedule patient appointments and manage front-office workflows

  • Maintain electronic health records (EHR) with accuracy and confidentiality

  • Understand HIPAA and patient privacy requirements

Medical Billing & Coding

  • Learn medical billing processes and insurance fundamentals

  • Understand coding basics and compliance requirements

  • Apply ethical and regulatory standards in healthcare administration


CPR & Emergency Response Training

Emergency Preparedness

Students will obtain:

  • BLS CPR for Healthcare Professionals

  • First Aid Certification

These certifications prepare students to respond effectively to medical emergencies in clinical environments and are required for externship participation.


Clinical Externship

Hands-On Clinical Experience

Externship placement is contingent upon successful completion of all academic and compliance requirements.

  • Medical Laboratory Technician

  • Dialysis Technician

Program Fees & Compliance Requirements

Included in Program Tuition

The Medical Assistant Program tuition includes the following required components:

  • BLS CPR for Healthcare Professionals certification

  • First Aid certification

  • Criminal background check

  • Drug screening

These items are required for participation in clinical training and externship placement and are coordinated as part of the program.


Immunization Requirements

  • Immunization requirements are determined by the externship or clinical site

  • Immunizations are not included in tuition

  • Students must complete any required immunizations prior to externship placement

  • Immunizations may be completed through our preferred healthcare provider or another approved provider, in accordance with externship site policies


Important Compliance Notice

Externship placement is contingent upon successful completion of:

  • Academic coursework

  • CPR and First Aid certification

  • Background check and drug screening

  • All externship-specific compliance requirements

Failure to meet these requirements may result in delayed or denied externhip placement.
