Phlebotomy Technician Program

Classroom Instruction & Clinical Externship

Program Overview

Our Phlebotomy Technician Program prepares students to become skilled, competent, and confident members of the clinical laboratory team. This comprehensive program combines classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory practice, and a supervised clinical internship to ensure graduates are ready to enter the workforce as professional phlebotomy technicians.

Phlebotomy technicians play a critical role in patient care by collecting blood specimens safely, accurately, and professionally while maintaining patient comfort, confidentiality, and compliance with healthcare regulations.

Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for a National Phlebotomy Certification Exam.


Eligibility Requirements

To enroll in the Phlebotomy Technician Program, applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Possess a valid state-issued photo ID

  • Meet all academic and clinical compliance requirements outlined below


Getting Started

  • Classes available morning, evening, and weekend

  • Program length: 4–6 weeks

  • A $250 non-refundable registration fee is required to attend orientation

    • The registration fee is applied toward total tuition

  • Students may pay tuition in full or arrange affordable payment plans

Program Description

Phlebotomy Technicians are responsible for collecting blood specimens through venipuncture and capillary collection for laboratory testing. Students are trained to follow strict safety, infection control, and quality standards while interacting professionally with patients across diverse healthcare settings.

Graduates may seek employment in:

  • Hospitals

  • Clinical laboratories

  • Physician offices

  • Blood donation centers

  • Urgent care centers

  • Specialty clinics


Phlebotomy Technician Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection

  • Identify patients and label specimens accurately

  • Follow infection control and safety protocols

  • Handle, transport, and process specimens properly

  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality

  • Comply with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards


Orientation

During orientation, students will:

  • Complete the enrollment and onboarding process

  • Review program expectations and policies

  • Learn strategies for academic and clinical success

  • Review externship and compliance requirements

  • Point-of-care testing and special collections

  • Blood cultures and IV-related procedures

  • Urinalysis and body fluid collection

  • Forensic toxicology and workplace testing basics


Classroom & Laboratory Training

Classroom instruction includes:

  • Medical terminology and anatomy & physiology review

  • Blood collection procedures and hands-on practice

  • Specimen processing and laboratory workflow

  • Universal precautions, safety, and quality control

  • Confidentiality, professionalism, and ethics


CPR, First Aid & Emergency Response

As part of the program, students will receive:

  • BLS CPR for Healthcare Professionals

  • First Aid Certification

These certifications are required for clinical internship placement and are included in program tuition.


Clinical Externship

Hands-On Clinical Experience

Students will complete a supervised clinical internship at an approved healthcare facility where they will:

  • Apply classroom and laboratory skills in real-world settings

  • Perform blood collection under supervision

  • Gain professional clinical experience required for certification and employment

Clinical placement is contingent upon successful completion of all program and compliance requirements.


Program Fees & Compliance Requirements

Included in Program Tuition

Tuition for the Phlebotomy Technician Program includes:

  • BLS CPR for Healthcare Professionals certification

  • First Aid certification

  • Criminal background check

  • Drug screening

These items are required for clinical training and externship participation.


Immunization Requirements

  • Immunization requirements are determined by the clinical internship site

  • Common requirements may include:

    • Hepatitis B

    • Tuberculosis screening (TB or T-Spot)

  • Immunizations are not included in tuition

  • Required immunizations must be completed prior to internship placement

  • Immunizations may be completed through our preferred provider or another approved healthcare provider, in accordance with clinical site policies


Important Compliance Notice

Clinical internship placement is contingent upon:

  • Successful completion of coursework

  • CPR and First Aid certification

  • Background check and drug screening clearance

  • Completion of all externship-specific requirements

Failure to meet these requirements may result in delayed or denied internship placement.
